2017 TKE Alumni Golf Tournament was a success! We had a good turnout for the TKE Alumni golf tournament. There was a total of 73 fraters, family members, and friends who participated. We even had a team from the active chapter participate. Thank you Fraters Delaney, Goedeke and Ryan for your time and effort in making the tournament a success. The weather was great and everyone seemed to have a great time.

Southeast Missouri State University Homecoming was Saturday November 5, 2016. The active chapter members hosted a tailgate party for the parade. Lots of Tekes attended Homecoming football game vs. Jacksonville State. Frater Keyeon Pitts, the chapter Prytanis was named Man of the Year! Congratulations to Frater Pitts. To see pics and more go to: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DeltaZetaChapterofTauKappaEpsilonAlumniAssociation/.

Pig Roast 2016 was a success and a great time.

The annual Pig Roast was held near Old Appleton Missouri the weekend of June 10-11, 2016. The event had a good turnout and the event made a profit of $270, all of which went to the Alumni Association. Thank you to those who helped make the event happen..

Alumni Association Art Fair for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
The fundraiser was at Fine Art Ltd. in Chesterfield, MO and happened over the weekend of May 22-23, 2016. We raised over $5000 for St. Jude's Children's Hospital and approximately $1100 for the Alumni Association. Thank you to those who volunteered and attended the event.

The Chapter is officially Re-Chartered as an active TKE Chapter!
Thank you to the dedicated Alumni and the hard working fraters on the SEMO campus. Delta Zeta Chapter officially became an active TKE Chapter on Friday, January 29. 2016. Representing Nationals was Grand-Prytanis Rod Talbot, Bill Shelton and Gabe Espinosa. A strong contingent of Alumni from the 1950's to the 1990's were also in attendance. The banquet was held at the University Center on campus and an after-party was held at Willie-T's downtown on Spanish Street. This was by far the largest event that had alumni and active fraters sharing the bond of TKE since the Alumni Association has been established.

TKE Alumni Association Christmas Party was held Saturday, December 5th, 2015.
The Delta Zeta Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon Alumni Christmas Party was held at Scarecrow Restaurant in Chesterfield, MO. We had a good turnout and a good time was had by all who attended.

Please Read: This is an example of why the Alumni Association stresses grades and men of character for the new chapter. This was a top recruiting chapter. They lost everything due to the actions of a few. Risk management practices, limiting liability and self policing of members can go a long way to prevent things like this from happening.

2015 Homecoming had good turnout!
Homecoming was October 17th, 2015. The colony was very gracious to the fraters who came to visit. A tailgate party was held and a good time was had by all. Pictures will be posted when available.

Thank you to those who contributed to the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
On Friday October 16th there was a scholarship banquet, where the scholarships from the DZ Alumni Scholarship Fund was be given out. The scholarships was given in the name of Frater Russ Wippler (DZ 180). Members of the Wippler family were present the banquet and presented the scholarships to the 3 DZ fraters who have earned them. The scholarship banquet was held at the Show-Me Center.

2015 TKE Alumni Golf Tournament was a success! We had a good turnout for the TKE Alumni golf tournament. There was a total of 50 fraters, family members, and friends who participated. As mentioned in the last meeting minutes, the tournament price was lowered from $100 to $50. All Fraters who paid $100, will have the $50 applied to their 2016 Alumni Association dues.

News from the Colony in 2014:

The colony is recruiting for the fall semester. Fraters Gabe Espinosa and “Buckwheat” Perry, representing Nationals, will be assisting with Recruiting for Fall 2015. They will be assisting with several recruiting campaigns during the first month of this semester. While the colony is trying to recruit as many new members as possible, they also looking for quality men, To stay above the minimum required GPA , this year the Colony will be focusing on the character and grades of potential recruits. Not only will high character recruits who also have good grades be an asset to the Colony and future Chapter, the frater is more likely to return to SEMO the following semester and years.

There are currently 33 initiates and 20 new recruits. This would put the colony at 53 initiates after this semester's initiation. The next initiation ceremony will be Saturday December 12th, 2015. If you haven’t been to an initiation ceremony since you went active, it’s pretty impressive. It also recalls all of the things we learned about TKE and what it means to be a TKE.

As a result of us having 50 new initiates, and a GPA which meets National’s requirements to become an active chapter, the colony is expecting to receive its charter in January. Colony Prytanis Ben Mulholland, stated that the colony will receive its charter on Friday January 29, 2016. To receive the charter back, a member of the TKE Grand Council must be present. According to Frater Henson, colony advisor, Grand Prytanis Rodney Talbot is expected to present the colony with its charter. This should be a great event for DZ TKE, so make plans to attend. More details later.

Highlights from the Alumni Association Meeting from May 19, 2015:
Colony Prytanis Ben Mulholland attended our meeting, and he was also our server at Scarecrow. When he had a spare moment, Frater Mulholland gave us an update on what has been going on with the colony. The colony held a retreat a few weeks ago, and Ben said it was a success. Ben felt that it brought the fraters closer together. He said that they had good opportunity to better get to know their fellow fraters, which gave each of them a better understanding and appreciation for the members at the colony. The colony recently initiation 9-men in April, and it now has 40-fraters. One of the goals was to try to have 45-fraters with this latest initiation class. This would have satisfied Nationals requirement that the colony have 45-active members in order to become an active chapter. Ben said that there was an opportunity to recruit some more men that would have given the 45-member, but he felt that the quality of these potential recruits were suspect. The colony felt that they didn't want to recruit men who might not be around after initiation. There will only be 1 recruiting class in the fall, but Ben said that the colony plans to have 2 recruiting periods in the fall. The first recruiting period will be at the time when all of the fraternities and sororities do their recruiting. Then a week or two later, they plan on having a second recruiting session, which will focus on the men they missed, men who were on the fence, and men who decided to go with another fraternity but discovered that the fraternity they joined wasn't all that was advertised. When they complete their recruiting program in mid-September, the colony actives will hold another retreat with the new recruits.

The colony is planning for a good alumni turnout for Homecoming. This year Homecoming is October 17, 2015. The colony will have tent on the parade route. There will be music, barbeque, cold drinks, and a chance for the alumni member to get to meet the colony member and recruits. For now, there are no plans on having a float in the Homecoming parade. All of the fraternities as sororities have been paired together for Homecoming events. The TKE colony would have to be paired up with one of the existing fraternity-sorority pairs, in order to participate in building a float. Ben said too that it cost a couple of thousand dollars to build a float, and right now that money can be used by the colony for more important things.
The chartering banquet is scheduled for November. Specific dates have not be set, but Friday will be the initiation of the men recruited in the fall rush, and Saturday will be the chartering banquet. More information later.

Finally the University has assigned the 12th floor in Towers South as the TKE floor. The floor will house about 30-member. The floor PA will be will be a TKE.

Fraters Bob Dannenmueller, Bill Diepenbrock (DZ 188), Dick Gettinger, Butch Ford, and Dave Duckworth will be on the committee to select who will receive TKE scholarships, and determine which deceased frater(s) will be named on the scholarship fund for that period.

For more information and details, please refer to the monthly email/newsletter. Go to the contact us page and send Frosty your email address if you are not on the mailing list.

Highlights from the last Alumni Association Meeting from March 23, 2015:
Delta Zeta Colony is #6 in the nation in recruiting. No other colony has ever achieved DZ’s level of recruiting. Overall things are going well for the colony, and they are doing well at Greek Week. National is considering using DZ as their model for colonization and recruitment.

A TKE golf tournament, being organized by Jim Delaney (DZ642) and Steve Goedeke (DZ 645). Currently they are looking to have the golf tournament in September. Courses they are looking at are Belk Park in Wood River Illinois, Emerald Green in Spanish Lake, or Normandie Golf Course near UMSL. Hopefully we will have the date, location, and other details soon. The tournament will be open to family and friends, with the money raised from the tournament going to the alumni association.

We will start collecting annual dues on May 1, 2015. Dues are $50/year. And as you have been reading over the last few months, they are much needed. So if you haven’t paid your 2014 dues, you can include them with your 2015 dues. Look at the current situation as the DZ alumni and colony experiencing growing pains. Last May was our first formal alumni meeting in some time. In about a month, we will be celebrating The Colony achieving active status. What probably is usually a 2-3 year process has been accomplished in less than a year. For more information, attend an Alumni Association Meeting or get on the email list by sending your information to Frater Snopek at snowmanski@att.net.

February 1, 2015: Alumni Association Scholarship Fund News

Alumni Prytanis Brengle stated that he met with Trudy Lee (Director of Planned Giving at SEMO). Trudy said that we were well on our way to achieving our endowment fund goal of $10,000. To date DZ alumni have contributed $7,275. If we achieve the $10,000 goal by June 30, 2015, the University will match that amount, making the fund at least $20,000. The University will administer the fund, and 5% of the fund’s assets will be given annually to qualified student(s) in the name of a deceased frater. A big thanks to all who have contributed to the memorial scholarship fund.

The Colony is almost an Active Chapter!
Frater Shelton with TKE International has told us that we are ready to go ahead and file for chapter status with national. There were 12 requirements that colony needed to achieve before being able to apply for chapter status. Some of the requirements were:
- At least 40 full-time members. Currently we have 32 fraters, and spring rush is coming up soon. Incidentally, the DZ colony was 4th out of all TKE chapters in recruiting for 2014.
- Achieve a GPA equal to or above the University criteria. The University criteria is 2.6. The Colony GPA was 2.7
- Strong participation in campus activities, groups, organizations. Every frater in the DZ colony is required to participate in a campus club, organization, or society
- Have a Colony/Chapter Advisor, and a functioning Board of Advisors.
- Be financially stable.
- Attend a Conclave. The next TKE conclave is in New Orleans this coming August, and they will be in attendance.

Two of the new initiates have dropped from the colony. Unfortunately they dropped just after going through initiation. It looks like the colony will be responsible for their initiation fees to national. The Alumni Association will try to help defer the cost of this, so please make sure you have paid your 2014 Alumni Association dues if you have not already. The Alumni Association and Board of Advisors is working to help the new Colony and future Chapter become financially stable and our goal is to help them to help themselves. Since everything is new to them, they do not have the wisdom of lower scroll fraters to get them where they need to be. They are doing well, learning and growing and the Alumni Association is proud of what has been accomplished so far.

This is just part of what was discussed at the last Alumni Association meeting. If you wish to have the full minutes of each meeting, please contact Larry "Frosty" Snopek at snowmanski@att.net. Due to the confidentiality and sensitivity of some of the items discussed at the meetings, the entire minutes will not be posted on the website.

August 19, 2014: Tau Kappa Epsilon/Delta Zeta Alumni Chapter Meeting Minutes

  • Discussed Alumni Chapter membership issues:

    • Each member should personally call or go visit face-to-face at least 5-10 Fraters from their “generation” (plus or minus) and encourage participation or at-least donating towards the scholarship fund/dues

    • Continue to keep in contact with those who have expressed interest but haven’t yet shown up

    • Golf Tournament – Frater Steve Goedeke is/was the POC, Frater Dick Gettinger offered his assistance with putting this together (I will attempt to contact the elusive Frater Goedeke to check on status and pass along Frater Gettinger’s information).

    • We discussed having a Thanksgiving/Christmas party; tentatively set for 6 Dec 2014 at Maggie O’Briens. Keep this date open, if possible. Even if we aren’t able to get our first choice of venue, we’d still like to use this date. Specific information about cost, menu, etc… will be forthcoming.

  • Scholarship letter/stickers are finished, will go to Trudy for mailing, she has the SEMO’s alumni list: Frater Ed Tauser will coordinate with her and cross-reference our mailing list.

  • Discussed TKE Scholarship Fund: how it works, “recipient” selection process, naming the first year’s award after the all of the “DZ Founding Fathers”

  • Frater Bill Shelton called while our meeting was going on and discussed (with Frater Bill Brengle) that there will be a Frater Espinosa from National at SEMO during orientation to assist with setting up a table and “talking” TKE to people. Some, or all, of the TKEs already at SEMO (originally from other schools) have reportedly been engaged and are willing to assist.

  • We discussed, as an Alumni Chapter, buying/giving a TKE Banner (like sponsors for youth sports teams use) or TKE Flag to the new colony, which can be used for rush purposes! Frater Bill Brengle brought this up. I don’t recall if a POC was named, but there was plenty of support.

  • We discussed the “Informal Rush” process, orientation, housing, etc… Fraters Shelton/Espinosa will be there working a table. Other fraters are welcomed to be there – but exact dates, times and the location weren’t mentioned.

NEXT MEETING WILL BE September 23rd, 7:00 PM, Maggie O’Briens (2000 Market St, St. Louis, Mo, 314-421-1388)

August 5, 2014: Some information regarding the establishment of an Alumni Association Scholarship fund.

At Homecoming Frater Brengle will give Trudy Lee the pamphlets that Frater Dave Duckworth developed for the TKE alumni scholarship fund. Trudy Lee is the Director of Planned Giving at the university, which oversees scholarship and endowment funds. Trudy will use the resources at SEMO to cross match the names of DZ fraters with their current addresses, and will mail out the pamphlets to the fraters. We will pay for the mailing and pamphlets, and the university will do the rest. The pamphlets will be our way of introducing the scholarship fund to the DZ alumni, and encourage fraters to contribute to the scholarship fund.

Fund raising will probably start sometime in December. Contributions are tax deductible, depending on how the contribution is made. Some of that information will be provided in the pamphlet that will be mailed to the DZ alumni group. Additional information on how to donate and take advantage of the tax deduction will be made available as fund raising for the scholarship draws near.

More information to follow regarding the funding and criteria for the scholarship fund.

May 17, 2014: A letter from Larry "Frosty" Snopek:

Dear Fraters:

On Saturday May 10, we had our first alumni meeting in some years, at 28/65 in St. Charles. 16- DZ fraters attended, along with frater Bill Shelton, our regional executive director. The following are the minutes from that meeting.

The first objective of the meeting was to have fraters sign the Application for Alumni Association Charter form. In order to be registered with international as an active alumni chapter, we need to submit the application form with signatures from 20 fraters. As cited above, we were able to get only 16-signatures. Also, international requires a $200 biennial fee or a $1,000 lifetime fee.

At the meeting officers were selected, and they are:

President: Bill Brengle DZ 494
Vice President: Dick Gettinger DZ 218
Treasurer: Ross Rosenberg DZ 691
Secretary: Larry Snopek DZ 461
President of the Board of Advisors: Matt Henson DZ 511

FYI: the President of the Board of Advisors will lead the group of alumni fraters at Cape, who will help oversee the colony/active chapter once it becomes established.

- Frater Bill Shelton laid out some details about recruiting members for the colony at Cape. He said that he does plan on recruiting members starting with the 2014 Fall semester. He will have a recruiting team, which will include himself, fraters from our region, active fraters from SIU Carbondale, and DZ alumni.

-Frater Bill Diepenbrock (DZ 188) reported that he and Frater Don Laferla (DZ 156) received a less than positive report from Dr. Dobbins (President of SEMO) and Dr. Skinner (Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Director of Residence Life) of our presentation to IFC, on bring TKE back to SEMO. Frater Shelton gave the presentation to IFC at Cape on April 14th. Myself, Fraters Matt Henson and Larry Hale (DZ 498), and some fraters from SIU-Carbondale were at the presentation, and provided input and comments during a Q & A session.
At our alumni organizing committee meeting on April 17th, Frater Shelton and I gave a positive report on the presentation, and the Q & A session. We understood that IFC had reservations about another fraternity coming on campus. Their concerns mainly resided with having another fraternity campus, and how that would affect the ability of the existing fraternities to recruit members. IFC’s concerns about adding two more fraternities at Cape were expressed in the attached edition of the weekly campus student newspaper The Southeast Missouri Arrow.

http://www.southeastarrow.com/story/2074684.html

De’ Ante Smith, the Director of Greek Life was the administration’s representative at the presentation. He reported to Dr. Skinner that our presentation was non-professional, that we were arrogant, and had some other less than complimentary objections. Fraters Diepenbrock and Laferla met with Dr. Dobbins and Dr. Skinner about our presentation, and the return of TKE to Cape. While the University will allow TKE to return to Cape, they will do so with a watchful eye.

FYI: The University allowing us to return to Cape has a lot to do with Frater Don Laferla. He is on the Board of Regents at SEMO, and is a generous contributor to SEMO. Also Frater Bill Diepenbrock is on the board of directors for the University Foundation.

-The fraters agreed to set alumni dues at $50/year. We are in the process of getting a checking account set up. More details later on where to send your dues.

-International requires a $200 biennial fee or a $1000 lifetime fee from the alumni chapter. We agreed to pay the $1000 lifetime fee.

-We discussed setting up a TKE scholarship fund, at the University. This is something that a lot of fraternities and sororities are doing. Generally they have some sort of criteria the student needs to meet in order to receive the scholarship (ie. gpa, specific major, etc.). The executive committee is in the process of working on the specifics of the scholarship fund, and will be presented at a later date.

Our next meeting will be at 7-pm, Thursday June 19th, 2014 at Rooks Gameday Grill on Dorsett and I-270 in Maryland Heights, Mo. Please make plans to attend this meeting.

Also, a reminder about pig roast. It is Saturday June 7th, at the Heartland Social Club near Uniontown Missouri. For additional information, Frater Mike Conway (DZ 764) at mikeconway3@juno.com or me, at the e-mail address below. Information can also be found on the DZ TKE FB site

If you have any comments, corrections, or questions regarding the minutes, please feel free to e-mail me at snowmanski@att.net

September 14, 2014: WE ARE BACK! Tau Kappa Epsilon/Delta Zeta Alumni Association would like to welcome our 20 new fraters who were initiated Saturday 9/13/2014 by the Teke chapter at SIU Carbondale. We are now a Teke Colony at Southeast Missouri State University.  Some news from Nationals about the New Initiates: http://www.tke.org/news/2014/09/16/teketuesday_building_a_legacy.  Here is an article from the SEMO student newspaper: http://www.southeastarrow.com/story/2117210.html.
September 23, 2014: Tau Kappa Epsilon/Delta Zeta Alumni Chapter Meeting Minutes

Dear Fraters:

The following are the minutes from our last alumni meeting, held on Tuesday September 23rd, at Maggie O’Brien’s in downtown St. Louis.

These fraters were in attendance at the meeting:  Bill Diepenbrock (DZ 188), Brian Loftus (DZ 269), John Giesler (DZ 448), Larry Snopek (DZ 461), Dave Duckworth (DZ 497), Bill Brengle (DZ 494), Steve Fenwick (DZ 523), Ed Ryan (DZ 638), Dan Helman (DZ 672), Ross Rosenberg (DZ 691), Ed Tauser (DZ 692), Bryan Nye (DZ 706), Mike Conway (DZ 764), Joe Worth (DZ 771), and Jeff Hoffmeyer (DZ 713).

Next Meeting:            7-pm Wednesday November 12th, 2014 at Maggie O’Brien’s.

Frater Brengle opened the meeting by saying that the TKE colony at Cape has 18 new fraters.  These men we initiated into the fraternity on Sunday September 14.  Fraters Bob Dannemueller (DZ 187), Bill Diepenbrock, Bill Brengle, Matt Henson (DZ 511), and Larry Hale (DZ 498) attended the initiation ceremony.  The new initiates were impressed with the alumni who attended the initiation.

After the initiation ceremony, the new initiates and alumni gathered, and a Q & A session broke out.  A number of questions were asked on the lines of “what happened to you guys?  Why were you removed from campus?”  etc.  So these men are aware that we did not handle ourselves well in living up to what it meant to be a TKE, but the specifics were kept out of the conversation.
Initial recruiting went so well that 5-6 men were extended open bids.  These men will go through a 6-week pledge education period, before going active.  They will be initiated into the fraternity on Sunday November 16th.  Initiation will take place at Dempster Hall.  All DZ fraters are welcome to attend the initiation ceremony.  With the group being initiated in November, we will have close to 30 fraters.  The magic number for becoming an active chapter is 50-fraters.

And the new initiates are already at it.  TKE has a flag football team.  No word on what their record is, but not bad considering the were 0 TKEs at Cape in August.

As mentioned in previously, we were not allowed to extend bids to men interested in TKE, until a week or two after all of the other fraternities extended bids.  So with this disadvantage, how did we fair?  The average number of men recruited by the existing fraternities was 13.  In addition to TKE, there is another new fraternity at Cape.  They recruited 55 men, because they were able to go the normal recruitment process.  So given all of the disadvantages we had, 18 is not bad at all.

Frater Gabe Espinosa, who spearheaded the recruitment effort at Cape interviewed each of the initiates.  From that interview Frater Gabe picked the officers for the colony.  Frater Bill Mulholland is Prytanis of the active colony.
In addition Frater Matt Henson will serve as chapter advisor, and Frater Larry Hale will be President of the Board of Advisors.

Both TKE International and SEMO are very impressed with DZ TKE.  Considering we didn’t have an organized alumni group at the start of 2014, we’ve come a very long way in a short period of time.  Frater Bill Shelton feels that we could be the top TKE chapter in the country.

Fraters Conway and Rosenberg are looking into setting up an account where fraters can pay their dues on line.
The colony at Cape is lacking name recognition, in that there are not a lot of things with “TKE” on it.  Most of the new fraters do not have shirts with “TKE” printed on them, etc.  The alumni chapter is looking to purchase the colony a TKE flag, a canopy tent with “TKE” printed on it, and printed t-shirts.  Currently the alumni chapter is low on funds, so we’re how much the alumni chapter can contribute to the support of the colony.   (This is another reason to get your $50 dues into Frater Rosenberg as soon as possible.)

Frater Joe Worth came up with an idea that alumni members would help sponsor (similar to a pledge father) the new initiates.  The sponsor would buy things for the initiate like the t-shirt with “TKE” printed on it.  The sponsors would only buy things that the alumni association would agree to.  This way everyone would be treated equally, and sponsors would contribute equally too.

Frater Dave Duckworth gave Frater Brengle the brochures that we will be sending out to the alumni, for the SEMO TKE alumni scholarship fund drive.  The brochures will be mailed out in November.  We are looking to raise at least $10,000.  SEMO will match our scholarship fund up to $10,000.  5% of the funds on an annual basis will be given out to deserving students.  The first scholarship will be given in honor of the founding fathers.
Frater Duckworth designed the brochures, and did a very nice job.  Good work Frater Dave.
In getting the colony started, someone at National was looking though their archives, and they found our original scroll and charter.

On the social calendar, the next big event is Homecoming at Cape on Saturday October 4.  Below is a list of university scheduled homecoming event for October 4th.
